Men’s Tennis Turns Back Daemen 7-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team grabbed its fourth shutout in as many matches on Monday courtesy of a 7-0 defeat of Daemen at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are 8-1 on the year. Daemen falls to 3-7 with loss.

The day's play started with a sweep in doubles. Andrej Omeragic and Fernando Alonso got the scoring started with a 6-0 shutout of Phillip Vance and Marcos Lerma Escobar on court three, and Lucas Bos and Alexis Guedy secured the doubles point for the Blue and Gold with a 6-2 win over Patrick O'Brien and James Schaab-Rozbicki on court two.

The last doubles match off the court saw Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre team up for a 6-3 win over Fabian Wilde and Jose Williamson III.

A shuffle in the Eagles' accustomed singles lineup saw Alonso play at the No. 3 spot for just the second time this season. The freshman had no trouble getting by Williamson III as he bested the Wildcat junior 6-0, 6-1. Next off the court was Bos who earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over O'Brien at No. 2, and Guedy scored the clincher with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Wilde at the top spot.

The Eagles' fifth point of the day came in the form of an Omeragic 6-0, 6-1 win against Vance on court four. Blake Rohweder stepped into the lineup at the No. 5 spot and easily dispatched Schaab-Rozbicki 6-2, 6-0. Maciej Sobolewski made good in his first dual match appearance of the year, topping Lerma Escobar 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6 to secure the shutout.

The Eagles' next match will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday when they take on Northwood (Mich.) in a neutral site match in Sanford.
