DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team played nearby rival Rollins to a 1-1 tie in Sunshine State Conference action at the ERAU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday. Playing in their fourth overtime game of the season, the 25
th-ranked Eagles scored first in Wednesday's game, but were unable to maintain the lead, moving to 5-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. Rollins continues to lead the SSC at 4-0-1 in the conference and 6-4-1 overall.
"Every game against Rollins is always a battle and tonight was no different," ERAU Head Coach
Samantha Bohon noted. "I thought we started the game well and had the momentum when we scored. We had two key chances after we scored that would have really changed the game if we had finished them. We know these games will have ebbs and flows and we have to capitalize when we're on top. They started the second half better so we had to absorb some pressure and then eventually we settled down."
The Eagles were dominant to start the contest, keeping the Tars contained in their defensive end of the pitch for much of the first 20 minutes. The Eagle pressure resulted in the lone score of the period in the 11
th minute.
Grace Foyer continued the form that earned her Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors when she headed home
Sofia Munthe Nilsson's corner kick from the left side to give ERAU a 1-0 lead.
The Tars gained more of the possession as the half wore on and stepped up the pressure on the Eagle defense to start the second frame, outshooting ERAU 6-0 in the first 15 minutes of the half.
The Eagles slowly began to turn things around and created a few dangerous opportunities to score, including a
Savanna Sheahan strike that drilled the post.
In the 69
th minute,
Marie Myhrvold Seim took a shot that was stopped by Rollins goalkeeper Noel Miller.
Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir pounced on the rebound but her attempt was saved off the line, allowing Miller to start building from the back.
The Tars moved the ball down the field and Meghan Mosely capitalized on and Eagle miscue to score the equalizer in the 69
th minute.
After neither team was able to add to its tally in regulation, the game went to overtime, but 20 additional minutes of soccer ended in a scoreless time, giving each team a point in the SSC standings.
The Eagles will have a week to recover before traveling to face No. 16 Palm Beach Atlantic on Oct. 20.
"This was the end of a really tough stretch of games, so I'm looking forward to enjoying the bye and recharging a bit so we can finish strong," Bohon said. "There's a lot to play for these last four regular season games."
