ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team received a point in the Sunshine State Conference standings thanks to a 1-1 tie against Eckerd on Saturday, which was the Eagles' first draw since Sept. 29, 2018.
Out of the gates, Embry-Riddle had multiple opportunities to score with three corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes. While continuing to press at the offensive end, the Eagles' defensive line held strong as well by drawing the Tritons offsides four times in the first half.
With under one minute to play before the break,
Collins Maude carefully dribbled down the right side of the pitch with a defender guarding him from a couple feet away. After a few touches, Maude crossed the ball into the box to
Olav Olsen Aamlid at the far post. Aamlid leaned forward and headed the pass in to put Embry-Riddle up 1-0 just before halftime.
Eckerd wasted little time to respond as the Tritons notched the equalizer in the 46th minute on a set piece. A free kick curved into the box and was headed over the goal line, similar to the Eagles' first goal.
It was a second half controlled by Eckerd as Embry-Riddle was outshot 6-1 over the 45-minute period. However, the Eagles' defense remained stout and kept the score tied at the end of regulation.
Neither team was able to muster many chances in extra time. Only one shot on goal was recorded by the two squads in the two 10-minute periods, and the match ended in a draw.
Olav Olsen Aamlid's goal marked the second time in three games he sent a shot to the back of the net. Additionally,
Collins Maude received his first collegiate assist on that play.
Amit Libgot led Embry-Riddle in both shots and shots on goal with two each, while
Jack Crichton recorded two saves in the net.
The Eagles will look to gather more points on Wednesday as Embry-Riddle faces Rollins at 7 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla.
