SAINT LEO, Fla. – Led by 17 kills from
Jaden McBride, the Embry-Riddle volleyball team earned a road victory on Wednesday evening, sweeping Saint Leo 26-24, 25-21, 25-23. The win improved the Eagles' record to 23-4 overall and 13-3 in SSC play, while the Lions fell to 11-17, 5-12 in conference matches. The 13 SSC wins are a new program record for the Blue and Gold, who went 12-8 in 2019 to mark the previous best SSC record in school history.
Sam Lanning chipped in with nine kills and three blocks (one solo) while hitting .438 and
Jenna Bishop added eight kills and four blocks (one solo) while hitting .313.
Cameron Gilleland had seven kills and a match-high 19 digs, which also tied her career high.
Aly Freeland collected 18 digs, and
Emily Weaver had a match-best 42 assists.
The Eagles fell behind early in set one, trailing by as many as five points (14-9) before mounting a late comeback. ERAU scored four straight points to tie the set at 22 and continued the run, winning a total of eight of the final 10 points to win the frame, 26-24.
Set two saw Saint Leo take an early lead once again, but the Eagles answered back sooner than they did in the opening set. A Weaver service ace gave ERAU a 12-11 lead, and a 4-0 run helped Embry-Riddle regain the lead, 16-14. The Blue and Gold didn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the frame and closed out the set by winning the final three points to win it by a score of 25-21.
A 6-0 spurt early in set three put the Eagles ahead 7-3, but Saint Leo responded quickly, tying things at 10 a few minutes later. ERAU took the lead back and slowly started to extend it, using a 4-1 run to pull ahead, 17-14. Three straight Eagle kills made it 23-19, and two points later a McBride kill gave the Blue and Gold match point at 24-20. The Lions scored on the next three rallies, but a McBride kill clinched it at 25-23, finishing the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to St. Petersburg for a 7 p.m. contest at Eckerd.
