DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team comfortably took care of Barry on Tuesday night, sweeping the visiting Buccaneers 25-20, 25-20, 25-21. With the win, ERAU improves to 21-4 overall and 11-3 in SSC play, while Barry drops to 12-10 on the year, 5-10 in conference matches.
Cameron Gilleland led all players with 16 kills while hitting .324; she also picked up 11 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.
Jaden McBride added 10 kills and 14 digs for her 11th double-double of the year, and
Emily Weaver notched her fifth double-double of 2021 with 11 digs and a match-high 33 assists.
Tamzen Wilson led the team with 23 digs and
Aly Freeland collected 10 digs, while
Sam Lanning posted a match-high seven blocks to go along with six kills and a .455 attack percentage.
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead in set one and maintained an advantage until Barry scored three straight to tie it 10. The Bucs took their first lead at 13-12, but a 5-1 run quickly put ERAU back in front, 17-14. After the Bucs took a 20-19 lead, Embry-Riddle called timeout, after which the Blue and Gold rattled off six points in a row to win the set, 25-20.
ERAU scored the first four points in set two and held the lead for the entire set. BU got within a point at 7-6 and within three at 18-15, but the Eagles never wavered, cruising to a 25-20 win.
Set three saw Barry hold a lead for consecutive points for the first time all match when the Bucs scored four straight to take a 6-3 lead early. The Eagles answered with a 5-1 run to pull ahead, 8-7, and later used another 5-1 run to extend the lead to 13-10. Four straight Barry attack errors built the lead to 17-12, and the Blue and Gold were never really tested after that, taking the set 25-21 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 6, when they host No. 17 Nova Southeastern in a 4 p.m. contest inside the ICI Center.
