Volleyball Sweeps Rollins in Home Opener, Off to Best Start in Program History

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team won its home opener with ease on Saturday, sweeping Rollins 25-22, 25-18, 25-11. The win moves ERAU to 10-0 on the season, which marks the first time in program history the Eagles have started a season with 10 straight wins. The Blue and Gold are also 2-0 in SSC play, while the Tars drop to 3-7 overall, 0-2 in conference.

Jaden McBride was the only player to reach double-digit kills with 12, while Cameron Gilleland chipped in with six kills, a match-high three service aces, and five digs. Sam Lanning and Amelia Hartnett each totaled seven blocks to lead all players, as ERAU racked up a total of 12 blocks in the match. Emily Weaver compiled a match-high 32 assists and Kendyl Taylor collected a team-high 11 digs.

Rollins held a 9-7 lead early in the first set but a 7-1 rally pushed the Eagles in front, 15-11. The Tars battled back, tying the set at 19 and maintaining that tie score until 21-21. A Rollins service error gave Embry-Riddle the lead, and Gilleland followed that up with two straight aces to make it 24-21. Two points later a McBride kill sealed the set at 25-22.

Set two saw Embry-Riddle storm out to a 10-1 lead, thanks in large part to five attack errors by the Tars. Rollins fought back to get within three at 16-13, but ERAU never let the lead slip away, as the Eagles coasted to a 25-18 win.

The Blue and Gold scored the first seven points of the third set, three of which came on Lanning blocks. The advantage only grew from there, reaching double-digits at 14-4 and peaking at a margin of 14 points at 21-7. Hunter Ackerman closed things out with a kill to clinch the set at 25-11, securing the 3-0 sweep.

The Eagles are back at home next weekend, beginning with a matchup against Lynn on Friday, Sept. 24. That match, which is presented by Cantina Louie, is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
