Game Recap: #8 Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Blanks Queens 4-0

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team closed out the CSU Cougar Invitational with a dominating 4-0 shutout of Queens (1-1), Sunday at the Walden Soccer Complex on the campus of Columbus State University. The Eagles scored a pair of goals in each half of play to even their record at 1-1 on the year.

Sunday's win featured a balanced performance by the Blue and Gold as there were four different goal scorers and three different individuals who recorded assists.

Each team tallied 12 shots on the day, with the Eagles registering six shots on goal. All four of the Royals' shots on frame were turned back by ERAU starting netminder Oona Jokinen who combined with Anne Taylor for ERAU's first shutout of the year.

""I am very pleased with our response to the disappointing result Friday night," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon noted. "We knew we had more to give and wanted another chance to get after it. Queens is a talented side who just came off a strong win against the No. 2 team in the country, so we knew we had to execute at a high level. To say that I'm excited about our start of the game would be a major understatement. We gave up two early goals Friday and knew that played a big role in the result. Today, we jumped on top early and then managed the game the rest of the way. I thought we kept our composure very well against a spirited team and had four quality goals against a good side. And let's not forget, we kept a clean sheet to end the day."

In the eighth minute, Queens was called for a foul in their defensive third. Anita Agusutdottir took the ensuing free kick and her ball into the box was met by Grace Foyer who headed home the first goal of her collegiate career to give the Blue and God a 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes later, the Eagles got the ball out to Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir on the right side of the field. Gardarsdottir's low cross got behind the Queens defense to Saba Amiri who finished with a side volley to put the Eagles up 2-0.

After 65 scoreless minutes, the Eagles grabbed their third goal of the afternoon at the 76:02 mark. Agustsdottir played the ball out to Marie Myhrvold Seim on the right. After taking a couple of touches she found Isabelle Navren on the run and a perfectly played ball in behind the defense allowed Navren to rifle a shot off the right post and into the net for her first goal of the year.

Myrhvold Seim was also involved in the second goal of the half, which came in the 84th minute. This time she fed Adriana Ordonez Lizarraga who received the ball at point blank range before netting the first goal of her career.

"This weekend will be a good learning experience for us to build upon for the remainder of the season," Bohon said. "We are excited about this group."

The Eagles begin their home slate on Sept. 12 when they host Davenport at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 10 a.m.
