HOOVER, Ala. – Embry-Riddle Volleyball closed out play in the South Region Crossover tournament with a 3-1 defeat of Auburn Montgomery, Saturday at the Finley Center. The Eagles went unbeaten in tournament play at 3-0 and boosted their record to 13-7 with scores of 25-17, 27-29, 25-11 and 25-18 in their fifth four-set victory of the season.
Saturday's win featured personal records for several ERAU players.
Devyn Petrowski saw action in three of the four sets and dished out a career-best 36 assists, while
Hunter Ackermann and Isabela Adamcyzk had career highs in kills with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Jaden McBride paced the Eagle offense with 10 kills and matched Ackermann's nine digs, while
Constanza Silva led all players 10 block assists on the day.
First-set action featured eight ties and four lead changes. Leading 15-14, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to widen the gap to five (19-14). The Eagle block helped limit the AUM offense to hitting just .088 in the first frame and three of ERAU's six team blocks came late in the set as the Eagles went on a 6-2 run to close out the 25-17 win.
AUM's offense came alive in the second set and the Warhawks jumped out to an early 10-3 lead. The Warhawks appeared to have the set in hand at 21-13, but the Eagles began to steadily chip away at the lead. AUM called a timeout in an attempt to slow the Eagles' momentum, but the timeout did not have the desired effect as a 9-1 run propelled the Eagles to overtake the Warhawks 25-24. Three of the set's five ties came in the final moments of the set and in the end, it was the Warhawks who managed to edge the Eagles 29-27 and tie the match at 1-1.
The Eagles bounced back in a big way in set three, hitting .478 with four team blocks and four service aces, including two of Ackermann's career-best three aces. AUM scored the first point of the set, but the next nine belonged to the Eagles who rolled to a 25-11 win.
The Blue and Gold took control of the fourth set early, opening a 19-8 advantage. A late run allowed the Warhawks to pull within five (21-16), but the early Eagle lead was too much for AUM to overcome and the Eagles went on to win the game 25-17 and seal the 3-1 victory.
The Eagles return to the ICI Center and to Sunshine State Conference play on Tuesday, hosting Florida Tech at 7 p.m.
