MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team defeated Florida Tech (7-5-1, 5-4) 1-0 on the road to close out the last game of regular season play, Tuesday at Rick Stottler Field. The Eagles were undefeated during regular season play at 10-0-5 overall and sit in third in the Sunshine State Conference standings at 5-0-5.
The Eagles out shot the Panthers 12-11 and had a 7-6 advantage in corner kick ratio.
The Eagles took control early in the first half, making the Panthers on edge from the first whistle and holding the Panthers to just two shots in the first 45 minutes. One of those shots came with 16 minutes remaining in the half and sailed just high of the goal.
In the 39th minute, the Eagles won a corner kick which was taken by Sophia Munthe Nilsson. Munthe Nilsson's ball dropped into the penalty area and Florida Tech's attempt at a clearance went only as far as
Kaitlyn Kogl just outside the box. Unmarked, Kogl fired a shot at the goal where it took a deflection before finding the back of the net for her second goal of the season and the only goal of the night.
By virtue of their third-place finish in the SSC, the Eagles will host an SSC Tournament quarterfinal game on Monday, Oct 31 at the ERAU Soccer Stadium. Opponent and game time are yet to be determined
