DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team dropped the final match of the 2022 series against Lynn (RV) on Friday, falling to the Fighting Knights in three sets at the ICI Center. The Eagles lost by scores of 19-25, 20-25, 17-25 to move to 17-13 overall and 8-11 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Lynn improves to 22-5 and 14-4 in the SSC with the win.
Jaden McBride led the Eagles with eight kills and 12 digs, while
Devyn Petrowski dished out 19 assists and
Dana Gibbons put up six block assists.
Lynn took control of the first set early, jumping out to 13-3 lead. The lead was still 10 (22-12) when ERAU head coach
Joslynn Gallop called a timeout. The Eagles responded with back-to-back scores which triggered a 7-3 run. They fought off three match points, but Lynn was able to get the point they needed to take the set 25-19.
The second frame opened with a 4-0 run for the Blue and Gold, but the Fighting Knights quickly caught up and a 5-0 run helped the visitors to a 10-6 advantage. The Eagles responded with a four-point surge of their own and midway through the frame, the score was tied at 14-14. Both teams went back and forth leading to 10 ties and five lead changes in the set. Gibbons' only kill of the set put the Eagles ahead 20-19, however, the Fighting Knights scored the next six points to win 25-20 and take a two-set lead.
The third set was even to start before Lynn to a three-point (10-7) lead. After a block by
Jenna Bishop and
Isabela Adamczyk pulled the Eagles within one (10-9), Lynn was able to go on an 11-2 run on the way to a 25-17 third-set win.
The Eagles will close out regular season play at 3 p.m. on Saturday when they host Nova Southeastern at the ICI Center.
