No. 17 Men's Basketball Pummels Barons, 88-41

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The NABC/D2SIDA No. 17 Embry-Riddle men's basketball team had little trouble with visiting Brewton-Parker on Tuesday night in the ICI Center, holding the Barons to just 41 points in an 88-41 romp. ERAU (4-0) set an NCAA-era record by holding BPC (3-2) to just 41 points. The Eagles led 45-11 at the break, and ultimately allowed BPC to shoot just 25% from the floor and 22% from long range.

14 of the 15 Eagles that saw the floor scored on Tuesday, led by Chris Murray's 17 points, while the hosts out-rebounded Brewton-Parker to the tune of 60-35. Danny Sully was the only other Eagle in double-figures on the offensive end, scoring 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field.

ERAU opened the game by pitching a shutout for the first eight minutes of the game, leading 13-0 before a lone BPC free throw broke the scoreless streak for the visitors. The lead ballooned to 22 when Jared Berry made a driving layup to put the Eagles on top 26-4 and it was never in doubt the rest of the night.

The Barons finally got into double-digits at the 4:11 mark of the first half, but ERAU scored the final 10 points of the period, taking a 45-11 advantage into the break.

The Eagle starters played the first seven and a half minutes of the second period before giving way to the ERAU bench holding a 63-24 lead, and the bench would see the game out.

DeJean Desiré, David Velasco, Calvin Freeman II and Theo Stangas all made their season debuts on Tuesday, with Stangas' debut doubling as his first-ever collegiate appearance.

Embry-Riddle registered 16 steals and 20 assists. ERAU also went 21-for-30 at the charity stripe.

The Eagles improved to 7-1 all-time against the Barons, and 6-0 at home.

Embry-Riddle hosts the 2022 Bahama House Shootout this weekend as Elizabeth City State, Upper Iowa and Wingate all come to Daytona Beach to participate.
