DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team recorded its 10th 3-0 sweep of the season, downing Florida Southern (14-13, 7-10) by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-13 in Sunshine State Conference play, Saturday at the ICI Center. Playing during Homecoming and the ERAU Volleyball's alumni weekend, the Eagles notched their eighth conference win of the season, improving to 8-9 in the league and 17-11 overall.
Cameron Gilleland recorded her 11th double-double of the year, leading all players with 11 kills and matching her season-best 16 digs to go with three block assists and a service ace.
Jenna Bishop and
Kendyl Taylor led the Eagles' defensive effort with Bishop being involved in six blocks and Taylor collecting 22 digs.
Florida Southern recorded the first kill of the day, but the Eagles scored the next three and later rattled off seven in a row to open a 15-6 lead, which quickly swelled to 22-11. The Mocs rallied to close the gap to 24-19, but a kill by
Isabella Rujano gave the Eagles the point they needed to close out the first-set win.
ERAU went on a 3-0 run to start the second set, but the Mocs stayed close and midway through set, the Eagle lead was only one point (15-14). An
Isabela Adamczyk kill triggered a 5-0 Eagle run, and while Florida Southern was able to get within striking distance again at 23-20, kills by Gilleland and
Jaden McBride helped the Eagle grab a two-set lead.
Embry-Riddle was dominant in the third set racing out to a 7-1 advantage to start. The lead ballooned to 16-7 as the Mocs' offense struggled with a 0.23 attack percentage, while the Eagles hit .250 in the set on the way to a 12-point (25-13) win and the sweep.
The Eagles and the Mocs will do battle again on Monday in a match that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian. Monday's contest will take place on the Mocs' home court in Lakeland at 7 p.m.
