No. 7 Men’s Tennis Blanks Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team swept through all three doubles and all six singles matches to notch a 7-0 win over Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference play on Thursday. The Eagles improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the SSC, while the Tritons fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Alexis Guedy and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo put the Eagles on the board with a 6-1 defeat of Eric Asakura and Arik Suez at No. 3 doubles. Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre downed Pierre Lasalle and Prakrut Patel by the same score at No. 1, and Lukas Schneider and Michele Iftimie wrapped up the doubles sweep with their 6-4 win over Christan Kearns and Arthur Fonseca on court two.

No. 21 Guedy also picked the Eagles' first singles point with his quick win over Patel on court two. Iftimie downed Fonseca 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, and Diaz Rodrigo secured the clinching point with his 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Asakura at the fourth spot.

Playing at the fifth position, Schneider dispatched Kearns 6-1, 6-1. For the third time in four contests 38th-ranked Ortiz Couder played in a match that went to three sets. The senior dropped the first set 4-6 but bounced back to take the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 for the Eagles' fifth point.

The last match of the day saw Fernando Alonso take down Suez 6-1, 6-0 to close out the scoring.

The Eagles' next match will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday when they host defending national champion Barry in another SSC battle at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
