ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its first Sunshine State Conference win of the season after topping Eckerd (0-7, 0-4 SSC) 7-0 at the Tritons' Fred Bullard Courts on Thursday. The ERAU women are now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Eagles surrendered just five points in three doubles matches.
Julia Mautner and
Sabrina Ehrenfort got the scoring started with a 6-1 defeat of Theo Schultz and Julia Triska at No. 3 doubles.
Jessica Wira Hadipoernomo and
Mafalda Soares assured the Eagles of the doubles point with their 6-2 win over Lili Reichert and Alexis Kwasnik on court two, and
Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrera del Hierro completed the sweep with a 6-2 win of their own over Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdrop at the top spot.
Wira Hadipoernomo made quick work of Schultz, 6-0, 6-2, on court three for the Eagles' first singles win of the day. Cabrero del Hierro followed with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Misdrop at No. 2, and Blanco scored the clincher with her 6-4, 6-4 win over Chavarria at No. 1.
Mautner was next off the court after downing Reichert 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
Alessia Tripaldelli followed with 6-2, 6-2 win over Raia Jagger at No. 4, and Soares closed out the scoring by besting Kwasnik 6-2, 6-2.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday at noon when the travel to Tampa for another SSC contest.
