Baseball Brooms Away Bridgeport in Series Finale, 22-4

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Embry-Riddle baseball team had its biggest offensive output of its NCAA II era on Saturday afternoon, completing the series sweep of Bridgeport with a 22-4 win. The Eagles (6-11) pounded out 21 hits and registered 20 RBIs as 11 different Eagles recorded a hit. The Purple Knights (3-6) couldn't find an answer on the mound, cycling through six separate pitchers to get 27 outs.

Garner Spoljaric got the nod for ERAU on the bump, and the senior tossed four innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits while fanning six. On a pitch count, Spoljaric was removed for Kelsey Ward to start the fifth. and Ward followed by three nearly perfect frames, striking out five batters, before Tristan Harley and Joe Balsam pitched the final two innings for the Blue and Gold.

The day's tone was set in the bottom of the first as ERAU scored three runs, including two on an Andrew Martinez single.

Bridgeport got its lone run off of Spoljaric in the second thanks to an Eagle error, but the game was put out of reach in the next inning when the Eagles sent 13 men to the dish, scoring nine runs for a 12-1 lead. Martinez brought in the first two runs with a triple, and after he scored on the errant relay throw, Kevin Vittoria, Ryan Carroll, and Alex Britton all reached, making it 7-1. Robert Post hit a bases-clearing double to push the lead to 10-1, before Zach Coldsnow followed with a triple to left, scoring two more.

Post duplicated his three-run double in the fourth, scoring Daniel Trillo, Vittoria and Martinez for a 15-1 advantage.

Ward worked around a single in the fifth to keep the Knights off the board, and breezed through the sixth and seventh.

The Eagles crossed home six more times in the seventh as Carroll, Justus Burke, Cameron Martinez, and Josh Reynolds all picked up RBIs in the frame, including Martinez's first career hit, a three-RBI triple to center.

Burke accounted for the final Eagle run in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to score Elias Campbell from third.

Bridegport scored three in the top of the ninth, but it was much too little, too late for the Purple Knights as they dropped their fifth straight.

Post finished 2-for-3 with six RBIs, tied for the most for ERAU in the NCAA II era, while Martinez went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and three runs scored. Coldsnow racked up three hits with three RBIs, and Burke had two runs batted in for ERAU.

Spoljaric (1-0) got the victory for the Eagles, with the ERAU pitchers recording a season-high 14 Ks.

ERAU stays at Sliwa to host Palm Beach Atlantic next weekend, weather permitting. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m.
