ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The seventh-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved to 9-2 on the year with a 4-0 shutout of Augustana, Wednesday at Sanlando Park. The Eagles won all three doubles matches and picked up the three singles points they needed at the third, fourth and fifth spots to register their fifth shutout of the year.
Lukas Schneider and
Michele Iftimie teamed up for the Eagles' first win of the day as they blanked Justin Karcher and Nicholas LaPoint 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre assured the Eagles of the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Henry Dornbusch and Cade Camgaard on court one, and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and
Alexis Guedy completed the doubles sweep for the Eagles, besting Tory Shafer and Tyson Cowger 6-4 on court three.
ERAU Head Coach Dave Paschal made a few adjustments to the singles lineup and the changes proved fruitful.
Fernando Alonso made his first appearance at the fifth spot this season and made quick work of Shafer 6-0, 6-1 to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Schneider made it 3-0 with his 6-0, 6-2 defeat of LaPoint at the third position and
Tim Loerwink, playing at the No. 4 spot for just the third time in his career, clinched the Eagle victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Joseph Laplachy.
The Eagles are back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, hosting Northwood (Mich.) at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
