BOCA RATON, Fla. – No. 4 Embry-Riddle men's tennis dropped a close match, 4-2, to No. 12 Lynn (14-2, 6-1) in Sunshine State Conference action on Friday. The Eagles are now 14-4 on the year and capped league play at 5-2.
Friday's match was the last contest of the regular season for both teams and both were fighting for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference tournament. While the Eagles narrowly missed out on that No. 2 spot, they still achieved the best finish (third) in the league since becoming full members of the SSC in 2017-18.
Lynn had the early advantage after sweeping all three doubles matches to go up 1-0 heading into singles.
Lukas Schneider scored the first point for the Blue and Gold with a quick 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Will Kirman on court five. No. 48 Ignacio Martinez put the Fighting Knights back in front when he topped
Michele Iftimie 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.
In a top-20 battle on court two between 15
th-ranked
Alexis Guedy and 18
th-ranked Lucca Baptista, it was Guedy who came away with the victory, besting Baptista 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 for the Eagles' second point of the day.
Lynn was victorious in the remaining three-setters, however, picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 to claim the win.
The Eagles will be the No. 3 seed in the eight-team Sunshine State Conference tournament, which takes place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, April 22-24.
