BRADENTON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team's 2022 campaign came to an end on Friday in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament. The Eagles fell to second-ranked Nova Southeastern (18-2) 4-0 to wrap up the season at 12-9, which marks their best record in their NCAA II era.
The Sharks earned the doubles point with wins at the top two spots as second-ranked Natalie Espinal and Chantal Nosievici topped
Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrero del Hierro 6-3, and Julie Razafindranaly and Dianne Follin-Arbelet downed Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Mafalda Soares 6-2.
The Eagles registered a pair of first-set wins at the third and fourth singles positions with Wira Hadipoernomo besting No. 34 Karolina Snita 6-1 and
Sabrina Ehrenfort topping Follin-Arbelet 6-3. However, those matches were not completed as NSU picked up the three points they need on courts two, five and six to advance to the next round.
The ERAU women enjoyed their most successful season of NCAA II competition to date as, in addition to their program-best NCAA II overall record, they achieved a No. 21 national ranking.
Itxaso Blanco also became the first ERAU women's tennis player to be included in the national rankings as she was No. 11 heading into tournament play.
