Baseball Takes Road Series Over Fighting Knights with Saturday Split

BOCA RATON, Florida - The Embry-Riddle baseball team won its fifth weekend series in its last six tries on Saturday, emerging from a twin bill with Lynn with a split on the day, but claiming the weekend series victory. The Eagles won the day's opener 11-9 before dropping the finale 13-10. Embry-Riddle (17-18, 6-12 SSC) scored 36 runs over the weekend, and has now won eight of its' last nine against Lynn (23-15, 10-11 SSC)

ERAU returns to Sliwa Stadium for four straight at home, including a Tuesday matchup against Flagler that begins at 6 p.m.

Game 1 - ERAU 11, Lynn 9
Andrew Martinez drove in four, and Josh Reynolds played the hero again with a go-ahead home run in the ninth as the Eagles claimed the weekend series in Saturday's opener, 11-9. The Eagles went up 4-0 before falling behind 8-4 and ultimately coming away with the two-run victory.

Neither team scored in the first with Kelsey Ward stranding a pair of Fighting Knights on the bases to send the game to the second, and the Eagles would go on to plate four runs in that inning. Daniel Trillo drove in one, and Martinez drove in a pair with back-to-back doubles after Garrett Bogart had scored earlier in the frame on a throwing error.

The third inning was all Lynn as the home team scored seven runs, including a grand slam to cap the scoring and give Lynn an 8-4 lead.

After a quiet fourth, the Eagles jumped back in front with a five-spot, getting an RBI base hit from Nick Hoffman, and a two-RBI double from Trillo before a two-RBI single from Martinez, pushing the Blue and Gold in front, 9-8.

Lynn tied the game in its half of the frame with a solo homer, and then neither bullpen allowed a run for the next three innings.

The top of the ninth began with a Bogart single to left and Reynolds followed with a booming long ball to center, putting Embry-Riddle up 11-9.

Joe Balsam worked the ninth, keeping the Fighting Knights off the scoreboard to secure his eighth save of the season. Tristan Harley (1-0) was the winner for ERAU as he worked a scoreless eighth inning.

Martinez finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Trillo went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs, and two doubles.

Game 2 - Lynn 13, ERAU 10
Despite 10 runs on 13 hits, the Eagles couldn't complete the weekend sweep, falling to the Fighting Knights' 13 runs on 16 hits.

Five Eagles finished with two hits, while Reynolds collected a team-best three RBIs and three runs scored. Martinez, Zach Coldsnow, Bogart and Reynolds all homered in the loss.

Embry-Riddle used six different pitchers in the last game of the weekend, with Gunnar Harrison (0-1) being tagged with the loss.
