DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team earned its first conference win of the 2022 season at home with a defeat of Tampa, Wednesday night at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The Eagles stayed unbeaten, moving to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Spartans slipped to 4-3 on the year, and 0-1 in the SSC.
Both the Eagles and Spartans toggled between possession early in the first half. Sophomore
Grace Foyer shot the ball from about 30 yards out, rattling the crossbar and giving the Eagles an almost early lead. With just under seven minutes left in the first half, SSC goal-scoring leader
Marie Myhrvold Seim was able to slot the ball past the Spartans' netminder with an assist from junior
Isabelle Navren. Seim's goal was her sixth of the season. Shortly after the goal, both teams were asked to clear the field due to lightning in the area.
Upon the teams' return and despite the wet conditions, both teams continued to battle. By the end of the first half, both teams combined for a total of four shots on goal.
In the second half, the Blue & Gold fought hard to maintain their lead. They moved the ball well and created good scoring opportunities. By the end of the second half, the Eagles and the Spartans combined for a total of 12 shots on goal. The Eagles held on to their 1-0 victory, giving them their sixth straight win of the 2022 season and first win of conference play.
Coach Liam McIllhatton and his Eagles will look to continue their success at home against Barry on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
