Women's Soccer Shuts Down No. 15 Columbus State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Women's soccer team earned its third straight win of the 2022 season at home with a 1-0 defeat of No. 15 Columbus State, Friday night at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-0 while the Cougars fall to 2-1. The Cougars came into the match with nine goals under their belt, averaging 4.5 goals per game, but the Eagles were able to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard for the first time in 28 matches (dating back to the 2020 season).

Both the Eagles and the Cougars possessed the ball well in the first half. The game remained scoreless in the first half with a total of six shots on goal, four from the Cougars and two from the Eagles.

The second half had the majority of the action with both teams combining for 14 shots in the half.

In the 71st minute, the Eagles won a corner kick. Isabelle Navren sent the ball into the box where Grace Foyer headed it into the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

With just 14:15 left on the clock, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick but the shot rattled off the crossbar. As time continued to count down for the Cougars, they were hopeful when given a corner kick with 5:45 left on the clock. After a dangerous ball was played into the box, ERAU goalkeeper Oona Jokinen made the save, keeping the ball out of the back of the net and maintaining the Blue & Gold's lead.

The Eagles will look to continue their success at home against West Georgia on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
