DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The second-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team earned its first draw of the 2022 season on Wednesday with a 1-1 tie of Florida Southern at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. With the draw, the Eagles move to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Mocs go to 4-1-3 on the year and 1-1-1 in league play.
The Eagles and Mocs both started the match strong, each team showing a good amount of possession. However, the Mocs did show a lot of fight in the first few minutes. In the first three minutes of play, FSC's Lindsey Meyer was able to put the ball in the back of the net off a rebound following a corner kick. The visitor's goal marked the first time this season that the Blue & Gold were trailed in a game, providing the hosts with a sense of urgency.
Just over 13 minutes later, junior
Marie Myhrvold Seim found herself alone up front battling multiple defenders for the ball. Myhrvold Seim was able to use her strength to maneuver through the Mocs' back line and dribble towards the goal. Despite having pressure on her while dribbling, Myhrvold Seim sent a beautiful weighted ball across the goal line where she found
Saba Amiri's feet. Amiri leaned her body over the ball and placed it in the top right corner, knotting the game at 1-1.
The second half featured nearly equal possession for both teams. The Eagles found their groove and were able to string passes together nicely, giving them a couple of good chances throughout the half. With a few minutes remaining, the Mocs' Malia Brost sent the ball towards the Eagle goal line, but netminder
Oona Jokinen was able to keep the ball out of her net, making a point-blank save, to avoid a 2-1 deficit.
Both teams combined for a total of 20 shots on goal, 11 for the Mocs and nine for the Eagles. By the end of 90 minutes, the score remained tied 1-1.
The Eagles will look to stay unbeaten in their first away game of the season on Saturday, September 24 against Eckerd at Johnson Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
