Men’s Soccer Falls to Stetson

DELAND, Fla. - Severe weather delayed the start time of men's soccer's match at Stetson by an hour on Tuesday, but both squads managed to get in a full 90 minutes of action as the Eagles (1-2-1) fell 3-1 to the Hatters (2-1-1) at the Athletic Training Center. It was the second time in seven days thunderstorms impacted a match involving the program.

Each team managed only one shot through the 27th minute when the Hatters finally tested the Eagles' keeper Thomas Loesel, who saved the first shot on goal. Unfortunately, Stetson's second shot on goal found the back of the net as the Hatters took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Loesel made a second save in the final minutes of the first half, and Embry-Riddle went into the break with a 1-0 deficit.

Both sides became more aggressive in the second half, and the proof was on the scoreboard. Three goals occurred within a seven minute timeframe. Stetson increased its lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute, but the Blue and Gold fought back when passes from Eden Bokobza and Anthony Velez allowed Konstantin Kosoric to send a ball through the top right corner and to the back of the net three minutes later.

Unfortunately, the Eagles fell back down by two goals when the Hatters scored again in the 76th minute. The 3-1 loss would be the narrowest margin of defeat in the series' three-match history.

Kosoric picked up his first goal of the season, and third of his career, while Anthony Velez earned his first ever point as an Eagle thanks to his assist. Bokobza also received an assist, giving him a team-high five points. Tom Shepherd was the only member of the Blue and Gold to record multiple shots (2). In goal, Loesel came away with three stops.

The Eagles return home for one final non-conference match on Saturday when Embry-Riddle hosts Florida Memorial at the ERAU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
