DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team earned its fifth straight win of the 2022 season at home with a defeat of Valdosta State, Thursday night at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
The Eagles hit the crossbar twice in the first three minutes of the first half, giving them a good start to the match. Throughout the half, possession toggled between the Eagles and Blazers, leaving both teams with good opportunities to score. In the 17th minute the game, junior
Marie Myhrvold Seim was able to win a penalty kick and put the ball in the back of the net for the Eagles, giving them a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, the Eagles were awarded a corner kick. Junior
Isabelle Navren was able to put the ball onto Seim's head and into the back of the net, giving Seim her second of the night and fifth of the season.
In the second half, the Eagles continued to dominate. In the 65th minute, the Blue & Gold were awarded another corner kick. Junior
Sofia Munthe Nilsson was able to seek out sophomore defender
Hattie Kettle near the back post. Kettle had a thunderous volley on goal- giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead and Kettle's first of the season.
Both teams combined for a total of 19 shots at the end of 90 minutes, 14 from the Eagles and five from the Blazers. The Eagles held on to their 3-0 victory, giving them their fifth win of regular season play and third consecutive clean sheet heading into conference play.
The Eagles will look to continue their success at home against the University of Tampa on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
