Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jean-Louis leads Eagles Past Sailfish, 63-60

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Madyson Jean-Louis scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team to its third road win of the year on Saturday. The Eagles erased a four-point halftime deficit to top Palm Beach Atlantic (8-7, 4-5) 63-60, improving to 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.

After managing just three points in the first half, Jean-Louis overcame a blow that left her with a cut over her eye to score 12 points in the second half, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. The sophomore did most of her damage at the free throw line where she was 11-of-13, but she also came up with a key defensive play in the closing seconds of Saturday's game to help the Eagles to the win.

The Sailfish opened the game with a 3-0 run, but the Eagles came back to take a 4-3 lead. The score remained unchanged over the next three and a half minutes as both teams struggled offensively. ERAU's Laurie Satchell ended the drought with a layup at the 3:43 mark and at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles still held a one-point (11-10) advantage.

The Eagles still led by a point (23-22) late in the second quarter, but the Sailfish went on a 5-0 run in the final three minutes to take a 27-23 lead at the half.

Palm Beach Atlantic maintained its four-point advantage through the first six minutes of the third quarter. At the 5:43 mark, Jenna Teterycz hit her only three of the game and that basket triggered a 10-0 run that put the Eagles ahead by six (38-32). PBA managed to score on a layup on their next trip down the court but free throws by Jean -Louis and a Mary Lengemann layup gave the Blue and Gold a 42-35 cushion heading into the final period.

Whatever momentum the Eagles had at the end of the third quickly shifted in PBA's favor at the start of the fourth as the Sailfish registered a 6-0 surge of their own to tie things up at 42-42 with 7:59 left to play. The final eight minutes of play featured six ties and two lead changes and with 27 seconds remaining, the teams were deadlocked at 60-60 thanks to one of five made threes by the Sailfish in the fourth.

Keturah Balabyekkubo was fouled on the Eagles' next possession and after she made one of two free throws, the Sailfish got the ball back and called timeout to advance the ball with 12 seconds on the clock. Coming out of the timeout, PBA got the ball to Kash Ayuso. Ayuso drove the lane with five seconds left, but Jean-Louis held her ground and drew the charge to give the ball back to the Eagles. Jean-Louis was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play and converted on both free throw attempts to seal the victory for the Eagles.

Balabyekkubo had a solid all-around performance for the Eagles with 12 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sydney Jones chipped in eight points, 10 boards and two blocks.

The Eagles are back at the ICI Center on Wednesday to host Nova Southeastern (RV) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
