Myhrvold Seim Leads No. 4 Women's Soccer Past No. 16 Sharks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A two-goal performance by Marie Myhrvold Seim was enough for the No. 4 Embry-Riddle women's soccer team to defeat No. 16 Nova Southeastern 2-1 and increase its regular season unbeaten streak up to 33 matches on Saturday night.

The win is the Eagles' (8-0-3, 5-0-1 Sunshine State Conference) second consecutive victory against the Sharks (8-2-1, 5-2-0 SSC) and the third in the previous four meetings.

Embry-Riddle needed only 25 seconds to threaten to score as Berglind Thrastardottir separated from a defender and rifled in a shot from the top left corner of the penalty box that bounced toward the left post, but it was subsequently saved.

The Eagles continued to attack, and the aggressive play paid off a few minutes later when Isabelle Navren dribbled down the right side and crossed it in to Myhrvold Seim who used a point-blank top-shelf header to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.

Savanna Sheahan attempted to double the Blue and Gold's lead in the 18th minute when she raced down the field with a defender on her left shoulder and fired away at the top of the box, but the line-drive shot traveled right to the keeper.

Though it felt like all the momentum and a majority of the possession resided with Embry-Riddle, NSU challenged the Eagles in the first half as ERAU only led 10-8 in the shot category and 5-3 in shots on goal.

Much like the first half, the Eagles needed very little time to strike once the second period began. Myhrvold Seim was unjustly tackled inside the penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick in the 47th minute. The senior successfully converted on her first PK attempt of the season with a dribbler through the right side to double the Blue and Gold's lead.

Myhrvold Seim came close to a hat trick with eight minutes to go when she maneuvered around a pair of Sharks and sprinted into the box, but a strong touch pushed the ball too far ahead, allowing NSU's goalie to dive on top of it.

The Sharks relentlessly attacked as the minutes ticked off the clock, and eventually they broke the potential clean sheet with a score with just 30 seconds remaining. However, Embry-Riddle was able to bleed out the rest of the clock to secure the win and move to the top of the league standings.

Myhrvold Seim's multi-goal performance was her second of the season and the fifth during her time as an Eagle. It gave her 71 career points and 27 career goals to move her up into ninth on both of the program's all-time lists. Additionally, it was her 11th career game-winning score, which tied for the fifth-most by an Eagle.

Navren's assist in the match also moved her up in the program's record books. It was the 26th of her career, tied for the seventh most all-time.

Oona Jokinen (8-0-3) was once again in the net for ERAU. She stopped five shots and held the conference's top-scoring offense to just one goal en route to her eighth win of the season. The Vantaa, Finland native moved into sole possession of third on the program's all-time wins list with 32.

Embry-Riddle recorded more shots on goal in the contest than Nova Southeastern by a mark of 7-6, but the Sharks did have 15 shots overall, one more than the Eagles.

ERAU's three-match road trip concludes Wednesday, Oct. 18 when the Eagles face Florida Southern at 7 p.m.
