DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 17th-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team pulled out a 1-0 win over Sunshine State Conference foe Lynn in the Eagles final home game of the regular season on Saturday. The win improves the Eagles record to 11-1-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the SSC.
Despite dominating the match in every offensive category, the Eagles' only goal in Saturday's game came with just over four minutes remaining. The Blue and Gold bested the Fighting Knights 20-4 in shots, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, and 14-2 in corner kicks, matching their season-high in that category.
The Eagles created several chances throughout the run of play, including a
Savanna Sheahan header in the first half and attempts by
Lauryn Mateo and
Marie Myhrvold Seim in the second, all of which were saved by Lynn goalkeeper Brooke Auth. The Eagles kept the Fighting Knights pinned in their defensive end for the majority of the first half, but the game opened up a bit in the second.
After knocking on the door with 11 shots in the second half and surviving a Lynn attempt that had ERAU netminder
Oona Jokinen diving to make a save, the Eagles finally got the goal on their 20th shot of the game with 4:09 left to play. Racing down the right side, Myhrvold Seim was fouled outside the box giving the Eagles a free kick. Lynn was able to thwart the other Eagle set piece attempts, but this time
Hattie Kettle rose above the defense to head home
Isabelle Navren's free kick to score her first goal of the season.
Saturday's win was the fifth shutout for Jokinen who finished with two saves. Auth had six saves for the Fighting Knights who move to 7-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the league.
The Eagles close out regular season play on Tuesday when they travel to West Palm Beach for a 7 p.m. tilt against Palm Beach Atlantic.
