MELBOURNE, Fla. - Embry-Riddle men's soccer lost a road conference matchup on Wednesday night, as the Eagles (2-4-1, 0-4-0 Sunshine State Conference) fell 2-0 to the No. 14 Florida Tech Panthers (6-1-3, 3-1-1 SSC) at Rick Stottler Field in Melbourne.
A downpour began just under 10 minutes into the game, but that didn't stop the scoring chances, with the Panthers having a chance go over the crossbar soon after.
With just under 20 minutes to go, sophomore goalkeeper Salvatore della Valle made good use of his first start, making a strong save to keep the score at 0-0.
That kept the score level throughout the first half while the rain eventually went away, and it was tied up 0-0 after 45 minutes.
Florida Tech made their breakthrough in the 49th minute, as their free kick reached the back of the net to put them up 1-0.
Eleven minutes later the lead was doubled, with the Panthers capitalizing on a rebound to go up by two goals.
This lead held for the next half-hour, as Florida Tech gained their sixth win of the season, as well as their third in SSC play.
Florida Tech led in shots with 22 to three from ERAU, with the Panthers having three of the four shots on goal. In addition to this, the corner kick battle was in their favor by a tally of 11 to one.
Embry-Riddle returns home for their second home Sunshine State Conference game, facing the Tampa Spartans on
Star Wars Night on Saturday, Oct. 7. Kick off at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
