DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Embry-Riddle men's soccer battled out a 0-0 tie, as both the Eagles and the Tampa Spartans failed to score Saturday evening at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium, as the Eagles shutout UT for the first time in program history.
Little action occurred in the first half, as neither team managed to accumulate a shot on goal, with Tampa (2-3-5, 1-2-2 Sunshine State Conference) having four shots to Embry-Riddle's (2-4-2, 0-4-1 SSC) one.
It didn't take long after the second half started for there to be shots on goal, when a 53rd minute shot on goal by UT was followed three minutes later by a string of three successive saves at point-blank range by sophomore goalkeeper
Salvatore della Valle, in his first home start as an Eagles.
Tampa mustered three more shots on goal but none managed to hit the back of the net, and ERAU gained their first conference point of the season as a result.
The match is also the first SSC shutout for the program since a 1-0 double overtime win away to Saint Leo on Sept. 18, 2021.
In total, della Valle (0-1-1) had seven saves in goal, a season-high for an Embry-Riddle goalkeeper.
Embry-Riddle goes on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 11 to face a Division I opponent, as the Eagles will play the Stetson Hatters. Kickoff at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand, Florida is set for 7 p.m.
