TAMPA, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team earned its fourth conference win of the season with a 3-2 defeat of Tampa on the road on Saturday.
Savanna Sheahan registered three points on a goal and an assist to help the Eagles improve to 7-0-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the league.
The Eagles netted the game's first goal after winning the ball off a goal kick and immediately playing the ball back up the field. The ball made its way to Sheahan in the box and she completed a short pass to
Grace Foyer who netted her sixth goal of the season with a strike to the lower left to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 17th minute.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Brooke Steigerwalt scored less than a minute later to tie the score at 1-1.
In the 34th minute, Sheahan got on the board herself to reclaim the one-goal lead for the Blue and Gold. An
Isabelle Navren corner kick was met by
Marie Myhrvold Seim who played the ball off her chest to Sheahan and the senior volleyed a shot past Tampa goalkeeper Aidan Smith for her third goal of the year to give ERAU a 2-1 lead at the half.
The Eagles continued to pressure the Spartan offense and their persistence paid off in the 61st minute when
Berglind Thrastardottir finished an
Olivia Gallo pass to extend the Eagle lead to 3-1.
Once again, the Spartans were able to provide a quick answer, scoring at the 63:27 mark to make it a one-goal game.
The Eagles won four corner kicks in the final 20 minutes of the contest, but were unable capitalize again resulting in the 3-2 final.
Overall, the Eagles bested the Spartans 16-5 in shots, 10-4 in shots on goal and 14-3 in corner kicks.
Oona Jokinen had two stops for the Eagles, while Smith finished with six saves as the Spartans move to 4-2-3 overall and 0-2-3 in the SSC.
The next game on the Eagles' slate is a match-up against league-leading Nova Southeastern. That game is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale.
