Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Flagler, 90-66

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Career-high performances by sophomore Mary Lengemann and freshman Kyra Haan propelled the Embry-Riddle women's basketball team to 90-66 defeat of Flagler on the first day of the Bahama House Shootout at the ICI Center on Friday. Lengemann finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, both career highs, while Haan scored a career-best 14 points to help the Eagles improve their overall record to 5-0 on the year.

In the Eagles' first win over the Saints (2-3) in three tries, the Eagles, fueled by 49 points from the bench, were 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the field, which is their second-best shooting performance this season. The Eagles also bested the Saints on the boards, outrebounding the visitors 40-25.

The first basket of the game came in the form of an Eva Zaragoza trey that gave the Eagles an early 3-0 lead and they never looked back. Se'Lah Reddick knocked down a three of her own that made it a two-point (5-3) game, but that was as close as the Saints would get. The Eagles were 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the field and used a 19-3 run to open a 24-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was closely contested with the Eagles holding a 24-21 edge in scoring. Haan and Lengemann each scored six points in the second 10 minutes of play to pace the Eagles with Lengemann going 3-for-3 from the field and Haan making good on four of her five trips to the free throw line. Embry-Riddle extended the lead to 27 points (46-19), but the Saints closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to make it 48-27 at the half.

The Eagles dominated again in the third quarter outscoring Flagler 25-14 to widen the gap to 32 points (73-41), but the Saints responded by besting the Eagles 25-17 in the fourth. Both teams connected on 14 field goals in the last 10 minutes, but the Saints knocked down eight threes compared to four by the Eagles. The highlight for the Eagles was their free throwing shooting as they were 10-for-10 on the way to the 90-66 final score.

Madyson Jean-Louis and Keturah Balabyekkubo joined Lengemann and Haan in double figures, with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Balabyekkubo led all players with 9 rebounds, while Kailey Turpening finished with a game-high six assists.

The Eagles close out play in the 2023 Bahama House Shootout at 4 p.m. on Saturday against North Greenville.
