DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In their final tune-up before officially opening the 2023-24 campaign, the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team downed United International College 97-66, Friday at the ICI Center. Friday's game was part of the 2023 Embry-Riddle Homecoming Festivities, which also featured the dedication of the newly renovated Jay & Leila Adams Basketball Locker Room.
All 15 players who suited up for the Blue & Gold saw action in Friday's game.
Danny Sully led the way for the Eagles with the game's only double-double. The senior was 7-of-9 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line on the way to an 18-point, 12 rebound outing.
Cameron Shockley-Okeke and
Milan Skoric tallied 14 points apiece, while
Jon Alessandro and
Dru Nickson added 10 points each.
The game was close through the first seven minutes with the Eagles holding a 15-9 edge. A
Malcolm Whitlow layup started an 15-3 Eagle run that put the Eagles up by 18 (32-14) at the 7:51 mark of the first half. The Eagle Rays managed to cut the deficit to 10, but Embry-Riddle ended the half on a 10-2 spurt to reclaim the 18-point (48-30) lead at the break.
The Eagles continued to pour on the offense in the second half and within the first eight minutes of the period the lead had ballooned to 39 points (82-43). UIC continued to battle and managed to reduce the deficit to 25 before the Eagles wrapped up the game with the 31-point victory.
The Eagles' 2023-24 campaign begins in earnest on Nov. 10 when they travel to Atlanta to compete in the GSC/SSC Crossover tournament. Embry-Riddle will face West Georgia at 7 p.m. on Friday followed by a 2 p.m. tip against Morehouse on Saturday.
