BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team lost 57-39 on the road to Lynn in Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday. The loss drops Embry-Riddle to 8-12 on the year and 3-11 in the SSC, while the Fighting Knights improve to 15-7 overall and 8-6 in the league.
The Eagles got 15 points from Keturah Balabyekkkubo and 14 from
Madyson Jean-Louis, which was more than any other player on the court. As a team, the Eagles were well below their season shooting averages, going just 31 percent (15-of-49) from the field and 20 percent (2-of-10) from beyond the arc. ERAU was above average in free throw shooting at 88 percent (7-of-8) on the night, but they did not attempt a free throw until the fourth quarter.
Lynn scored the first two points of the contest and built a four-point (6-2) cushion, but the Eagles got a three and two layups from Balabyekkubo to take a 9-6 lead. The Eagles remained in front of the Fighting Knights for a minute and a half before the home team scored six in a row to end the first quarter with a 12-9 advantage.
The Blue and Gold knotted the score at 14-14 early in the second quarter, however, a 13-0 run helped Lynn take a double digit (28-16) lead into the halftime break.
With the Fighting Knights struggling from long range, going 0-9 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes, the Eagles switched a zone defense to start the third quarter, which further disrupted the Lynn offense. The Fighting Knights scored just two points in the first five minutes of the frame, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize as they managed just four points during that stretch. Lynn outscored Embry-Riddle 7-2 in the last 4:56 of the quarter and heading into the final frame, the lead was 37-24.
The final 10 minutes of action saw the Fighting Knights shoot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) in three-pointers to seal their second win of the season against the Eagles.
The Eagles will be on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Saint Leo for a 3:30 p.m. tip against the Lions.
