DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - Valdosta State posted two crooked numbers in the fourth and sixth innings on Saturday to down the Embry-Riddle Baseball team 11-2. The Eagles (3-3) couldn't do much against VSU (4-1) starter Kevin Tomas, managing just six hits and one run against the right-hander, falling to 1-3 against the Blazers this season.
ERAU actually struck first, going ahead 1-0 in the second when
Alex Britton plated
Garrett Bogart with an RBI groundout, but the lead didn't last long as the Blazers answered in the top of the third against ERAU starter
Conner Dunnam, tying the game at 1-1 with a couple base hits.
Embry-Riddle had a pair of baserunners in its half of the third inning, but Tomas kept them off the scoreboard, and the Blazers took control in the fourth, chasing Dunnam from the game and ultimately scoring five runs on three hits and a walk, going up 6-1.
Gunnar Harrison kept VSU scoreless in the fifth, but a three-run homer from VSU in the sixth put the game pretty much out of reach.
Spencer Marinac,
Isaiah Eberheart, and
Tyler Shaw all pitched an inning for the Blue and Gold.
The Eagles scratched across their final run when
Dylan Brazil tripled in the eighth, scoring
Timo Aracena, but the visitors came back with two of their own in the ninth for the 11-2 final.
Dunnam (0-2) took the loss for the Eagles, with Aracena, Bogart, and
Noah Clymer all registering two hits on the day.
The Eagles conclude the GSC/SSC Clash tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Auburn Montgomery.
