JACKSONVILLE, Florida - The Embry-Riddle baseball team took care of the defending HBCU National Champions on Tuesday night with a 13-2 mercy rule shortened victory over Edward Waters. The Eagles (2-2) scored two runs each in four of the first six frames before blowing things open in the eighth with a five-spot. The Tigers (1-2) committed five errors in the loss.
The Eagles got the scoring started in the second when Zach Coldsnow scored on an infield single from Noah Clymer. Garrett Bogart touched home on Camden Traficante's sac fly for a 2-0 advantage.
Gunnar Harrison drew the start on the bump for the Blue and Gold, keeping the home team off the scoreboard through the first three frames, and in the top of the third the Eagles doubled their lead when Bogart and Coldsnow both scored thanks to a trio of Tiger errors on the same play.
EWU scratched across a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Bogart more than made up for it, hitting the first home run of the season for the Blue and Gold in the fifth, a two-run shot for a 6-1 lead.
The visitors tallied two runs in the sixth before a slew of Eagle subs put the game well out of reach in the eighth, scoring five times. Kevin Vittoria, Coldsnow, Robert Post, and Andre James all rallied RBIs in the inning.
EWU got just one run in the home half of the eighth with Tyler Donay wrapping things up for the Eagles.
Harrison (1-0) got the win, pitching six innings, allowing one run with five strikeouts. Knute Rockey made his college debut with a scoreless eighth inning for ERAU.
Bogart finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored, while Coldsnow went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs.
The Eagles open their 2023 home schedule at Sliwa Stadium this weekend by hosting the GSC/SSC Clash. Florida Tech, Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State will all travel to Daytona Beach for the three-day, six-game event.
