TAMPA, Florida - Unfortunately for the Embry-Riddle baseball team, not much went right for the Eagles on Saturday as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the No. 2 team in the country, Tampa, 16-2Â and 9-0. The Eagles (10-8, 2-4 SSC) couldn't keep pace with the Spartans (17-3, 6-0 SSC) offensively as UT extended it's winning streak over the Eagles to six straight.
ERAU returns to Daytona Beach to host Purdue Northwest on Wednesday, March 15 in a twin bill at 2 p.m.
Game 1 • UT 16, ERAU 2
The Spartans scored 15 runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 2-1 Eagle lead and turn it into a 16-2 UT blow out.
AJ Marinello was able to tie the score at 1-1 in the second with a single through the right side that scored Josh Reynolds, and Camden Traficante hit a leadoff homer in the third inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead, but the hosts exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take firm control of the game and never look back.
Six Eagle pitchers saw action on the mound for the Eagles, with Brock Chance and Blaine Hogue pitching the final 3.2 innings without allowing a run.
Marinello and Traficante both had two hits in the game.
Game 2 • UT 9, ERAU 0
The Eagle offense was held quiet by the Spartan staff, as ERAU stranded nine baserunners in the series finale.
Again it was an early big inning that doomed the Eagles, with Tampa plating five runs in the third frame to turn a 1-0 lead into 6-0 advantage. UT would add three more runs over the final five frames for the 9-0 win.
ERAU managed just four hits, walking five times and striking out 10.
Gunnar Harrison relieved Dillon Moran, throwing the final 3.1 innings, and allowing just one run.
