Saint Leo Dominates Friday's Doubleheader, Secures Series Over Baseball

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Embry-Riddle baseball team suffered its worst home doubleheader losses since 1993 on Friday, dropping both ends of a twin bill to visiting Saint Leo, 12-1 and 14-0 in Sunshine State Conference action. The Eagles (11-11, 2-6 SSC) mustered only one run on eight hits on Friday, while the Lions (13-10, 4-4 SSC) sent the home team to their fifth and sixth straight league defeats.

The two teams will meet up again on Sunday at Sliwa Stadium with a start time to be determined.

Game 1 • SLU 12, ERAU 1
Timo Aracena homered for ERAU's only run of the day, a solo shot in the fourth inning, but Dariel Fregio kept the rest of the Eagles from doing much of anything, going eight strong innings with five strikeouts and just one run allowed.

Tyler Stufano (3-2) took the loss for the Eagles on the bump, while Andre James got some action on the hill for ERAU, pitching a scoreless ninth.

The wind helped the Lions score their first two runs of the game in the second inning, and they doubled their lead to 4-0 in the third before Aracena's long ball in the fourth.

SLU put the Eagles away with a five-run seventh en route to the 12-1 win.

Game 2 • SLU 14, ERAU 0
The Eagles were blanked for the third time in 2023 when the Lions scored a pair of touchdowns against them to secure the weekend series.

The Lions struck first with two runs in the first against Connor Dunnam, and the visitors just kept adding on, plating two in the third, one in the fourth and then five in the seventh and four final runs in the ninth.

Isaiah Eberheart and Keagan Perez were bright spots for the Eagle pitching staff as Eberheart faced the minimum six batters in two innings of relief, and Perez got the final two outs in the ninth without allowing a baserunner.
