DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - Despite an early 3-0 lead and eight total runs, the Embry-Riddle baseball team fell 14-8 to visiting Lynn on Friday at Sliwa Stadium. The Eagles (13-15, 3-10 SSC) and Lynn (13-15-1, 4-9 SSC) had a back-and-forth contest for most of the series opener, but the visitors scored the final six runs of the game, including five in the deciding eighth, to come away with the win.
The Eagles were riding high in the first after scoring three first-inning runs, starting with a
Camden Traficante double to center that scored
Alex Britton for a 1-0 lead.
Timo Aracena followed with a triple to right center, scoring on a throwing error to make it 3-0 for the home team.
The Fighting Knights answered quickly with two runs in the second against ERAU starter Connor Dunnam, but the right-hander was able to get our of the inning with ERAU still in the lead.
Neither team scored over the next four half-innings, and the hosts extended their advantage in the fourth when
Jeremy Kennedy-Davis tripled, plating
Josh Reynolds, and later scored on a
Dylan Brazil single up the middle, making it 5-2 in favor of ERAU.
Once again the Knights responded, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth.
AJ Marinello singled through the left side of the infield in the home-half of the fifth, bringing in
Garrett Bogart as the Eagles enjoyed a 6-4 cushion.
Dunnam was chased from the contest in the top of the sixth as the visitors scored four runs to take an 8-6 lead before
Gunnar Harrison was finally able to get out of the frame.
It didn't take long for the Eagles to respond, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth when Kennedy-Davis started the inning with a solo homer, and Brazil touched home on a sacrifice fly from Britton to knot the game at 8-8.
The eighth was indeed ERAU's undoing as the visitors scored five runs on five hits and an Eagle error, taking a 13-8 lead before tacking on one in the ninth for the 14-8 final.
Marinello, Kennedy-Davis, and Brazil all had two hits, while Kennedy-Davis finished with two RBIs.
The Eagles and Fighting Knights wrap up the series tomorrow with a twin bill beginning at 1 p.m.
