Baseball Splits with Sailfish as PBA Takes Weekend Series

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida - For the second time in as many days the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish hit a walk-off home run against the Embry-Riddle baseball team. On Saturday, it was a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning after the Eagles (19-19, 7-14 SSC) had taken a 6-3 lead into the last PBA (18-21, 6-15 SSC) half-inning, but an error with two outs allowed the hosts to keep the inning going before the eventual four-run homer. ERAU managed to win the day's opener, 4-1, behind a strong start from Connor Dunnam.

The Eagles head to Lakeland, Florida to take on Florida Southern next weekend.

Game 1 • ERAU 4, PBA 1
Dunnam (2-6) tossed seven innings, scattering six hits while striking out three PBA batters and allowing just one run before Casey Keller closed things out for the Blue and Gold, earning his first save of the season.

The Sailfish would get their only run of the game in the first on a wild pitch, but the Eagles quickly responded when Matthew Coker walked with the bases loaded, scoring Robert Post and tying the game at 1-1.

Dunnam and his PBA counterpart matched zeroes over the next several innings, stranding runners left and right until the visitors finally broke through in the sixth when Coker singled to center, playing Timo Aracena after he had walked and stole second earlier in the frame.

Leading 2-1, Dunnam face the minimum in the sixth worked around a single in the seventh before giving way to Keller to start the eighth. Keller got ouf of the eighth unscathed and Josh Reynolds delivered a big, two-out two-RBI single in the ninth to provide some insurance.

Camden Traficante and Garrett Bogart reached with one out in the ninth before a strikeout pushed the Eagles to their final out of the inning, but Reynolds came through, singling to right center to score both runners and give the visitors some breathing room at 4-1.

Keller didn't allow a two-out double to bother him in the bottom of the ninth and the Eagles forced a rubber match with a 4-1 win.

Traficante had two hits and Reynolds plated two for the Eagles in the victory.

Game 2 • PBA 8, ERAU 6
It was déjà vu for the Blue and Gold in the series finale, just like Friday night holding a late lead before ultimately falling via a walk-off homer. Unfortunately, Saturday's was even more heartbreaking as the Eagles led 6-3 entering the bottom of the ninth and a two-out error in the outfield was the catalyst for a PBA rally that ended with a grand slam.

Tyler Stufano delivered a quality start for the Eagles, going 7.2 innings, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts, but the ERAU defense committed five errors in the contest, allowing two unearned runs to score against Stufano and  all five runs to score in the ninth.

Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second after Coker tripled with one out, plating both Dylan Brazil and Aracena, and Stufano gave the Eagles a shutdown inning in the bottom of the frame, moving the game to the third.

An error in the bottom of the third allowed the Sailfish to cut the lead in half, but the visitors got the run back when Alex Britton singled home Brazil in the fourth.

The two teams traded runs over the next several half-innings, with Kevin Vittoria collecting an RBI in the fifth and ERAU led 4-3 heading into the sixth.

Stufano worked a scoreless sixth and seventh before getting two outs in the eighth. Gunnar Harrison stranded the tying run on base, getting the final out of the eighth inning, and ERAU got two insurance runs in the ninth for a 6-3 cushion.

Joe Balsam entered to try and register his sixth save of the season, getting two outs with a man on before the outfield error preceded the eventual walk-off.

Coker finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Balsam (2-2) took the loss for the Eagles.
