DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis (13-11) team's trip to the 2023 Sunshine State Conference tournament came to an end with a 4-2 loss to 13th-ranked Rollins (17-6) in the third-place match on Saturday.
The Tars picked up wins at the top two doubles positions to secure the doubles point.
Charlie Putrino's straight set (6-2, 6-2) win over
Luke Paschal on court six put the Tars up 2-0, but the Eagles got a point back when
Lukas Schneider downed Moritz Stenzer 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5.
Luke Quaynor reclaimed the two-point advantage by holding off
Michele Iftimie 7-6 (1), 6-4, but
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo answered with a three-set (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) victory over Richard Stoiberer at No. 4. Playing at the third spot,
Fernando Alonso won the first set 6-3, but Guillermo Castaneda rallied to win the next two sets (6-3, 6-4) to clinch the win for Rollins.
