AMERICUS, Ga. - The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team (2-1-1) gained their second win of the season, defeating the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes (2-3-1
) 2-0.
After going scoreless for most of the first half, ERAU took the lead as sophomore midfielder/forward Tom Shepherd scored off a free kick in the 44th minute, bending the ball into the left corner of the goal past the GSW goalkeeper.
The Eagles took the lead into the halftime break, as the Hurricanes were unable to score in the short time after the goal.
Embry-Riddle sealed the deal in the 79th minute, as junior midfielder/forward Sandro Henning scored after being played through on goal by an excellent pass from sophomore midfielder Gabriel Mentrup.
This was to be the final score of the game, as ERAU held on for its second road win of the month.
Overall, Embry-Riddle had the upper hand in the game, leading with nine shots to GSW's seven, and having four of the six shots on goal in the game.
Ferriol Caballe i Vila (2-1-1) made two saves in the shutout, as Shepherd led the Eagles with five shots, two being on goal.
Embry-Riddle returns home for their Sunshine State Conference home opener, facing the Barry Buccaneers on Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
