DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A barrage of four goals in the first 24 minutes of play propelled the eighth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team to 4-1 defeat of Rollins, Wednesday at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The Eagles tallied their second highest goal total of the season to improve to 6-0-2 overall and 3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins sits at 3-3-3 and 1-2-2 in the league.
Unlike the Sept. 20 meeting between the teams when the Blue & Gold had to come from behind late to secure a win, Wednesday's game saw the Eagles dominating from the start. But the contest was a tale of two halves as the Eagles who tallied eight shots in the first 45 minutes, managed just four shots compared to six by Rollins in the second.
The Eagles' first goal of the game came early in the contest with the home team getting on the board in the third minute.
Berglind Thrastardottir used a deft touch to beat a Tars defender, then slotted a short pass through to Savannah Sheahan who drilled her second goal of the season into the lower right corner to give the Blue & Gold its second fastest goal of the year.
Thrastardottir was also involved in the Eagles' second goal. Embry-Riddle won a corner kick in the 11th minute and
Lauryn Mateo headed home Thrastadottir's set piece to put the Eagles up 2-0.
In the 24th minute,
Isabelle Navren intercepted a Rollins throw-in and volleyed the ball to
Savanna Sheahan. Sheahan controlled the ball, spun, and played a pass through to Marie Myrhvold Seim putting the senior in a foot race with the Tars' last defender. Myhrvold Seim's speed put her in a one-v-one situation with the goalkeeper and she beat Lauren Mehos with a shot to the lower right corner to triple the Eagle lead.
Moments later Seim was on the board again. Crisp passing out of the back ended with the ball at Seim's feet and she took advantage of being unmarked to bury her fourth goal of the year and increase the lead to 4-0.
Rollins managed to get a goal back in the closing moments of the first half and tested ERAU goalkeeper
Oona Jokinen in the second. But Jokinen managed to make key stops and finished the game with seven saves to keep the Eagles' unbeaten streak intact.
The Eagles will be back at the ERAU Soccer Stadium on Oct. 4 to host SSC foe Florida Tech. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
