DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle women's soccer team netted the game's first goal on Wednesday, but were unable to parlay it into a win, tying Valdosta State 1-1 at the VSU Soccer Complex. The result puts the Eagles' record at 2-0-1, while the Blazers move to 1-0-2.
The Eagles' goal came off the boot of Marie Myrhvold Seim in the 28th minute.
Ida Kummel dispossessed a Blazer attacking player in the midfield and played the ball out
Rachael Mahan on the right side of the pitch. Mahan squared a pass to Myhrvold Seim at the top of the box and while fighting off two defenders, the senior lunged to push the ball past VSU goalkeeper Tori Vliet to put the Blue and Gold up 1-0.
The Eagles dominated the game in the first half besting Valdosta State 7-0 in shots, but it was the Blazers who were the more offensive minded to start the second half. They outshot the Eagles 3-0 in the first 10 minutes and converted on their fourth chance of the game as Victoria Bahr's first goal of the year leveled the score at 1-1 at the 59:17 mark.
The final stats showed the Eagles with a 12-5 shooting advantage, including a 7-2 edge in shots on frame. Despite the advantage, the Eagles were unable to get by Vliet as the VSU netminder collected six saves, while her ERAU counterpart
Oona Jokinen had one stop, resulting in the 1-1 final.
The Eagles close our their four-game road swing on Saturday when they travel to Florida Tech for a non-conference tilt. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
