Eagles Fall to Sailfish

West Palm Beach, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team faced off against Palm Beach Atlantic University in a mid-week clash, looking to replicate their previous success in this matchup.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they fell short, with the final score being 3-0 in favor of the Sailfish.

The whistle blew and immediately the Eagles offense was unleashed with a shot from Sandro Henning just two minutes into the game which was blocked by a defender. Despite this early momentum, the Eagles' offense struggled to capitalize. Their defense, and goalkeeper Tommy Fellowes, faced increasing pressure, enduring five shots and four corner kicks before succumbing in the 26th minute. A well-placed header from Luke Manley, following a cross from Agustin Lusem, found the bottom left corner of the net, giving the Sailfish a 1-0 lead.

In response, Head Coach Dave Gregson made four substitutions to revitalize the squad. However, just five minutes later, Harry Gardner executed a powerful free kick that soared past Fellowes, doubling the Sailfish's advantage to 2-0. The Eagles' best opportunity came from freshman Fabian Hilpert, who managed the only shot on target for the half but could not find the back of the net.

The second half proved equally challenging for the Eagles. In the 55th minute, a penalty was awarded to Palm Beach Atlantic. Narcis Bou Dalmau stepped up to take the kick, and despite Fellowes diving in the correct direction, the precision of the shot left him with no chance, extending the Sailfish's lead to 3-0. The Eagles attempted to rally, with Tom Shepard firing a powerful shot wide as time wound down. The match concluded with a disappointing 3-0 loss for the Eagles.

The Eagles are at home again on Wednesday at the ERAU Soccer Stadium where they take on Saint Leo University at 7 p.m.
