Volleyball Serves up a 3-1 Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle volleyball team rebounded with a 3-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon partially thanks to a season-high 12 aces, which were the second most in a four-set match in the Sunshine State Conference this season. Additionally, it was the most in a single game by the program since Sept. 3, 2021, versus North Greenville. Senior Jaden McBride bombarded the Sailfish with a season-high 23 kills and a .455 hit percentage. The win gave ERAU its eighth victory over PBA in the last nine meetings.

Embry-Riddle had a lot of ground to make up early on, trailing 5-2 in the first set. A 9-2 run with three aces and a trio of blocks by Dana Gibbons completely changed the momentum of the set as the Eagles went ahead 11-6. ERAU maintained its distance until the end, despite PBA tallying three unanswered points late in the set, to win 25-20.

Another early scoring streak, which was a 5-0 run this time, had Embry-Riddle in front 6-3 in set two. Though the Sailfish tied the score on three occasions, the Eagles never trailed for the remainder of the set. At 18-18, Embry-Riddle captured seven of the last 10 points to win 25-21 as McBride put the set away with an ace.

Three consecutive miscues by the Sailfish had ERAU out to a 3-0 lead in the third. A couple of three-point spurts brought PBA back into the set and ahead 17-16. Both sides went back and forth in the final stages, tying the score on eight more occasions. Though ERAU reached match point at 24-23, Palm Beach Atlantic scored three in a row to steal the set 26-24.

The Eagles got back on track in set four. Isabella Rujano contributed a pair of blocks to ERAU's 5-2 lead. PBA got within one at 8-7, but the Eagles stepped on the gas for six points in a row with three straight coming from kills by McBride. Now up 14-7, Embry-Riddle was able to cruise to the end, taking the final five tallies to win the set 25-12 and the match three sets to one.

McBride's 23 kills were tied for the fourth-most in a match in the conference in 2024. She also added six digs and three aces. Rujano contributed 11 kills and six blocks. Ashlyn Koerner led in assists with 26 to pair with 12 digs while Lexie Hage corralled 17 assists. Gabriela Pagan was the team leader in digs with 17. Gibbons chipped in seven blocks. Five Eagles registered an ace in the match, led by four from Ashley Lunt.

Embry-Riddle begins a three-game homestand on Tuesday against Saint Leo at 7 p.m.
