Volleyball’s Win Streak Snapped by RV Sharks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Embry-Riddle volleyball's four-match winning streak was halted with a 3-1 loss to RV Nova Southeastern on Tuesday. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the latest national coaches' poll, struggled from the floor with a season-low .073 hit percentage compared to the Sharks' .205. Embry-Riddle was looking for the season-series sweep after cruising past NSU 3-0 on Oct. 1, but the two teams split the season series for the second straight year.

Embry-Riddle held a slim 8-7 lead in the first when Jaden McBride tallied a kill and an ace to go with a pair of Shark attacking errors for a 4-0 run and a 12-7 advantage. Then up 17-14, ERAU captured eight of the last nine points with McBride recording three kills over the team's final five tallies. The senior was incredibly efficient in the first set, recording six kills in just nine attempts with no errors.

In the second, three NSU miscues sent the Blue and Gold on a 5-0 run to jump ahead 7-4, but the Sharks responded with three straight points to level the score. The two squads went back and forth until Nova Southeastern strung together four consecutive scores to send ERAU behind 18-15. That deficit was too large to overcome as the Eagles dropped set two 25-23 despite fighting off three set points in a row.

The Sharks created 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 runs in the third, the latter of which made the score 21-14 in favor of the home team. Eventually, Embry-Riddle fell behind two sets to one after dropping the third set 25-19.

After the Eagles controlled the first two points in set four, NSU scored 10 unanswered tallies en route to a 25-9 set win to conclude the match.

McBride earned a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs as did Isabella Rujano, who accumulated 10 kills and 10 digs. Reigning Sunshine State Conference Setter of the Week Ashlyn Koerner registered 30 assists. Gabriela Pagan posted 16 digs. Dana Gibbons stuffed four kills and is now just five away from joining the program's 250 block club. For the first time this season, Hunter Ackermann led in aces with three.

Up next is a crucial match on Friday as the Eagles kick off homecoming weekend by hosting No. 8 Tampa at 7 p.m.
