Volleyball Suppressed by No. 17 Lynn

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle volleyball team played its final home match of the season on Saturday, falling to No. 17 Lynn in straight sets inside the ICI Center. It was a battle of highly-ranked regional teams as the Fighting Knights and the Eagles are ranked second and third in the latest NCAA II South Region rankings. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Blue and Gold and solidified an 11-2 record at home during 2024. That marks the most wins in Daytona Beach for the program since 2018. It's also ERAU's highest win percentage at home (.846) since 2012.

The Eagles knew Lynn posed a difficult challenge on the defensive end as the Fighting Knights entered the match with the lowest opponent hit percentage in the Sunshine State Conference at .141, and that was exactly the case on Saturday afternoon. ERAU managed 33 kills and a hit percentage of .107.

Set one began with the two sides trading points before Lynn went on a 5-1 run to take a 6-4 lead. Embry-Riddle stayed close, but the Fighting Knights then strung together an 8-1 spurt to send ERAU behind 16-8. Down 20-14, the Eagles attempted a late-set comeback with kills from Haley Manjack, Jaden McBride and Isabella Rujano to score five unanswered points and get within one (20-19). However, Lynn kept its marginal lead intact and won the set 25-22. Kailey Hrbek did well to try to keep her team in contention for the set win with four blocks.

Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in set two, but the Fighting Knights used two kills and a pair of Blue and Gold attacking errors to snatch the lead at 4-2. A 6-0 streak by Lynn later on made it a five-point deficit for ERAU (12-7). Though Fifi Harvey, Rujano and McBride registered points to send the home team on a 3-0 spurt, Lynn responded with seven consecutive points to make the score 22-13 and later win 25-15.

The Eagles possessed a slim 6-5 lead to open set three. However, the Fighting Knights once again put together a lengthy run with five points in a row to go ahead 10-6. Again, Embry-Riddle attempted to rally in the latter stages of the set by fighting off four straight match points with tallies from Harvey and McBride for a 4-0 spurt (24-20), but Lynn eventually captured the 25th point of the set to end the match.

Harvey tied for the team lead in kills for the first time this season with nine. Rujano and McBride also posted nine kills with the latter also grabbing 14 digs. Ashlyn Koerner registered 29 assists, and Hrbek and Manjack led in blocks with four each.

Embry-Riddle hits the road for its final two regular-season matches. First up is a rematch with RV Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The Eagles took the first meeting back on Sept. 27 in five sets.
