RV Volleyball Concludes Regular Season With 3-0 Loss to No. 19 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle volleyball team closed out the 2024 regular season with a loss to No. 19 Barry in straight sets on Friday night. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll and are ranked fourth in the South Region, finished with a 20-9 overall record and a 13-7 mark in Sunshine State Conference play to slot in fifth in the SSC standings. It's the third time in the previous four years ERAU has reached 20 overall wins and 13 conference victories.

Jaden McBride used three kills in a four-point span to give the Eagles a 9-8 lead, but the two sides stayed neck-and-neck. Neither squad was able to separate by more than two points for a majority of the set. Embry-Riddle used a 4-1 run with two kills from Fifi Harvey to lead 13-11, but Barry scored three straight to retake the lead. The Buccaneers stretched the advantage all the way out to 22-18, and ERAU dropped the opening set 25-21.

The Eagles faced an early 5-0 hole in set two. The two teams traded 3-0 runs as Gabriela Pagan recorded back-to-back aces, but five straight points by the home team forced the Blue and Gold behind 13-5. Isabella Rujano attempted to ignite her team with two consecutive kills to begin a 4-0 spurt to get the Eagles within four (13-9), but that was as close as ERAU would get for the remainder of the set. Barry went up two sets to none with the 25-19 set win.

Once again, Barry used an early 5-0 run to put Embry-Riddle in a 5-2 hole in the third set. However, Pagan picked up two aces in a row just like in the second set to help the Eagles tie the set at 5-5. Later on, the Eagles were down 20-18 when they went on a 3-0 streak that was capped off by a Rujano kill to give the Blue and Gold a 21-20 advantage. The Buccaneers captured five of the last seven rallies, and ERAU fell in the third set 25-23.

McBride topped the kill column with 11 to pair with six digs. Ashlyn Koerner led in both assists (18) and digs (10) for her fourth double-double in the last six matches. Haley Manjack posted a team-best three blocks, and Pagan was responsible for six of the team's seven aces, which doubled her previous single-match career high and is tied for the fourth-most by an SSC student-athlete in a contest this season.

The Eagles now wait to see if they receive one of the eight bids in the South Region to the NCAA II National Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
