Eagles Use 13 Hits to Cut Down Northwood, 13-5

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Once again, the Embry-Riddle baseball team put together a solid outing to secure a home victory as the Eagles (9-6, 2-1 SSC) collected 13 hits en route to a 13-5 win over Northwood (0-7) on Saturday at Sliwa Stadium.

The middle of the lineup came through for the Blue & Gold as Drew Clymer, Timo Aracena, Dillon Lifrieri and Alex Britton all had multi-hit games, combining to go 9-for-16 with seven RBI and four runs scored. Camden Traficante continued his torrid start to the season homering to deep right field in the eighth. Pete Castoldi, the DH for the fourth consecutive game, collected three RBI and two runs scored as well, continuing his hot streak.

The Eagles saw three stout performances from their staff, beginning with Justin Webster who took the ball in the first. He went 3.1IP allowing just four hits, four walks and one earned run to go along with three strikeouts. In relief, Trevor Nolan also went 3.1IP, giving up four earned striking out one, while Tyler Donay pitched 2.1 excellent innings of no-hit ball and puched out four of the eight batters he faced.

Northwood opened up the scoring in the top of the opening frame via a one-out sacrifice fly and held that lead until the Eagles evened things up in the bottom of the second. Drew Clymer sent a blooper to right to reach base as the leadoff hitter, then advanced two bags on two wild pitches in the next at bat. Then with one out, Lifrieri sent a deep shot to right to plate Clymer, making it 1-1.

ERAU plated three more an inning later, Matthew Coker and Chase Bruno went back-to-back singles to open up the frame, Traficante reached on a fielder's choice, then Castelli reached on an error, scoring Coker. Clymer then singled to right, scoring Traficante, and finally Timo Aracena flew out deep to center to score Castelli. Up 4-1, the Eagles forced a pitching change.

Northwood cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, thanks to a home run and sacrifice fly, but the Eagles slammed the door shut with a seven run inning in the home half. ERAU batted around the order in the frame; Lifrieri powered a two-RBI triple with one out, Britton scored on a wild pitch, Traficante drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring Alex Imposimato, then Castelli, who walked and scored in his first at-bat in the inning, sent a double down the right field line to score two more runs. All told, ERAU left the fifth up 11-3.

Nolan shut down the Timberwolves 1-2-3 in the sixth, but pinch hit specialist Jarboe came in and homered to left to make it 11-5 through seven. The Eagles then got another productive inning in the eighth; Traficante led off with a home run shot to right, then Clymer and Aracena went back-to-back doubles to add one more.

Tyler Donay, who came in for the last seven outs, shut the door with two big strikeouts in the top of the ninth to end things with the Eagles taking a 13-5 victory.

Up next, the Eagles travel to Valdosta, Ga., to take on Valdosta State on Tuesday night.
