No. 16 Men’s Tennis Drops Road Match at No. 5 Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – For the first time in over a month, the 16th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team went on the road for a contest, but unlike their first dual road contest of the season, the Eagles were unable to come away with a win on Saturday. Playing on the campus of Valdosta State University, the Eagles dropped a clinch-clinch match to the fifth-ranked Blazers, 4-1.

Following an hour and 15-minute rain delay, the teams opted to play singles matches first in an effort to avoid additional inclement weather in the area.

The Blazers won the first three points with eighth-ranked Takeshi Taco besting No. 34 Joshua Nuyts 6-2, 6-1, No. 12 Boruch Skierkier holding off Michele Iftimie 6-1, 6-4, and Jerome Iaconi topping Caelan Potts 6-1, 6-2.

The Eagles got a point back when Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo Diaz won a three-setter against Jan Skerbatis at the sixth spot. The Embry-Riddle junior dropped a close first set 5-7, but rallied to win the next two 6-4, 6-3 to improve his dual match ledger to 11-0 on the year.

Valdosta State was able to get the clinching point at No. 1 singles where No. 42 Luca Mack battled No. 39 Safar Rasulov to a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win.

The Eagles will remain in Valdosta for their next match which will be against West Alabama at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
